Biography
James Percival was born near Nantwich, Cheshire and studied at Brine Leas High School. He is currently completing A-levels at Malbank Sixth Form where he also assists the Music and Performing Arts departments and, as well as qualifications, has been awarded for contribution to Music Technology, Services to the Arts and as deputy head boy. From October 2007, he will be taking up an offer to read Music at Somerville College, Oxford to further his interest in academic music.
I am proficient on both Mac and PC environments, fluent in all the major music software (ProTools, Nuendo/Cubase, Logic, Sibelius) and have experience in designing and building DAW setups. I also have several years of experience in live sound/PA and am well versed on most analogue and digital desks and outboard equipment. In the recent past, I have recorded everything from a 5-piece metal group to a symphony orchestra and choir.
I am a fluent music reader and also avidly write about music. As a musician, I perform largely in classical music idioms on winds and piano/organ and voice, having recieved Distinction at ABRSM Grade 8 recorder and Grade 5 piano and hopefully soon Grade 7 piano. I also play in more exotic styles on flutes and squeezeboxes. As a composer, I tend to absorb styles by osmosis and this should be reflected in the range of style I have attempted to compose in, from a solemn neo-Classical choir and organ piece to music intended for an 80s-set TV cop-drama.
